| | | | HOW DID THE ALPINE CHAIN FORM? | Monginevro Mountain Chain with the Chenaillet – Monti della Luna and Chaberton Mountain - are the spectacular testimony of an extinct paleo-geographical environment which is still recognizable: this extraordinary landscape is of remarkable naturalistic value.
It is a fragment of the ancient pre-alpine ocean, a part of its "fossil" sea floor that preserves rocks and morphological elements unique across the entire alpine arc: from the basalt flows of the volcanic ocean ridge to the 200 million year old coral reefs.
